The Children’s Arts Festival returns in person on Saturday, September 17, 2022 in Kamloops.
The Kamloops Arts Council is excited to announce that the Children’s Arts Festival is scheduled to return in person on Saturday, September 17, 2022. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests are invited to drop by Riverside Park East to participate in a fun evening. , a creative day offering activities and artistic, musical and theatrical shows for children aged 2 to 12. The Children’s Arts Festival is completely free, so anyone who can is encouraged to join in this long-running community event.
The theme for this year’s Festival is ‘Rivers to Rainbows’ and aims to celebrate the water, land and sky that surround us. Vendors will not only be inspired by all that Mother Nature has to offer, but will also be encouraged to be aware of the impact their stall has on the environment. To keep our rivers and rainbows beautiful, the Kamloops Arts Council hopes that all workshops will be run with primarily recycled and/or recyclable materials to keep the event as sustainable and eco-conscious as possible. The Arts Council also hopes to bring educational elements to the Festival this year, with workshops on topics such as water filtration and garden maintenance, as well as an explanation of the magic behind the formation of arches. in sky. Performers will also aim to incorporate eco-friendly messages into their presentations, while adorned in their most prismatic outfits.
In addition to attending the workshops, guests are invited to dress up in their most fantastical rainbow-themed costumes to match the artist and community booths. Children aged 2-12 will have the opportunity to show off their colorful costumes and eye-catching artwork in the big and beautiful rainbow parade at the end of the event, although a costume is not available. not required to participate, only encouraged. Guests also have the option to further beautify their appearance with face or hand paint, as well as henna, all of which will be available for free at the festival.
Along with the stunning parade, guests can expect a plethora of hands-on activities such as button making, origami, and paper “stained glass,” to name a few. There will also be storytelling, interactive songs, dancing and more, provided by performing artists from across British Columbia. To ensure that the fun can continue throughout the day, food trucks should be present in the park so that families can enjoy the full extent of all that the arts festival has to offer without setting foot in outside of Riverside Park.
Additionally, if the excitement of the day starts to get overwhelming, the Arts Council plans to have a “Quiet Zone” for those who might need a break.
For those not available on September 17, the Arts Council aims to hold Rivers to Rainbows workshops before the big day to create crafts that can be enjoyed outside of the festival, as well as for use during the closing parade.
Held for over twenty-two years, the Children’s Arts Festival provides a great opportunity for kids from all walks of life to take part in amazing arts activities at no cost. The Festival aims to create memories that will last a lifetime and with its imaginative theme of Rivers to Rainbows it is guaranteed to make an impact.
