Ceremony honoring John Quincy Adams

QUINCY – A wreath laying ceremony to celebrate the 255th birthday of President John Quincy Adams will begin at noon Monday, July 11 at First United Parish Church, 1306 Hancock St. A wreath will be presented on behalf of President Joe Biden by Lt. Cmdr. Alicia Ping from the Navy Operational Support Center in Quincy. The theme of the ceremony is “Caring for Our Fragile Democracy” and will feature guest speakers, as well as music from the Quincy Choral Society. The ceremony will be open to the public and available to stream online. Tours will be offered after the ceremony.

DUXBURY – The opening of the exhibition “Gillian Christy: Tabernacle Tableau” will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday July 17 at Art Complex Museum, 189 Alden Street, Duxbury. Admission to the museum, the exhibition and reception are free.

Asian folk tales, songs, origami at the Pembroke Library

PEMBROKE – Award Winning Storyteller Motoko will perform at the “Folktales of Asia” event from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 at the Pembroke Public Library, 142 Center St. Motoko will share Asian tales and songs, then teach attendees how to make a craft of ‘origami. Ideal for children from 5 to 11 years old. Registration is not required. Free entry.

Fairy Tale, Zipline July 26 at Pembroke Library

PEMBROKE – Hear the story of a fairy tale and create a zipline during the “STEM Storytime: Hansel & Gretel’s Zipline” event from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26 at the Pembroke Public Library, 142 Center St. Participants create a zip line to change the characters story ending and use their problem-solving skills to build a device. Japanese Tea Ceremony on July 31 at Duxbury
