Explore the Lunar New Year with 5 fun events | Announce

The UNL Asian Student Union has planned a full week of Lunar New Year events for the Huskers to celebrate together.

One of the most sacred traditional Chinese holidays, Lunar New Year is a time for family reunion and celebration.

From January 31 to February 7, the UNL Asian Student Union is organizing five events for UNL students to experience unique and beautiful festivities with fun, food and culture.

All events are at 6 p.m.

MONDAY, JAN. 31 | Bend your way through the Lunar New Year
Kick off the week’s festivities with an origami tutorial via Zoom.

TUESDAY FEB. 1 | Lucky Envelope
Stop by the OASIS lounge on the 1st floor of the Gaughan Multicultural Center. Visitors will receive their own “lucky envelope” and a treat for the new year.

WEDNESDAY FEB. 2 | LNY Cooking Show
ASU members will share and demonstrate a homemade dumpling recipe and cooking show via Zoom.

THURSDAY FEB. 3 | Calligraphy evening
Learn and practice the traditional art of calligraphy. Stop by the Unity Room on the 2nd level of the Gaughan Multicultural Center.

MONDAY FEB. 7 | Year of the Tiger Gala
ASU and OASIS are teaming up to present a gala and celebratory dinner at the Red Cloud BC Rooms at the Willa Cather Dining Center. Students are encouraged to wear traditional clothing to the event. Participants will be treated to a meal, a fashion show and the traditional lion dance. RSVP is required to attend: https://go.unl.edu/lunar.
