Howard Hughes Corp. reveals the concept and artist of the Waterway mural

The Howard Hughes Corp. revealed additional details about the painted mural at The Woodlands Waterway.

The mural, titled “Flowers,” is painted on a 358-foot by 105-foot wall on the south side of the Woodlands Waterway Square garage and will be one of the largest murals in Texas when completed April 9-10. according to a press release from The Howard Hughes Corp.

The project was created by artist Alex Katz and commissioned by The Howard Hughes Corp. It will be the 81st artwork on display in The Woodlands area and the first mural, according to officials at The Howard Hughes Corp.

“We are driven by the accessibility of public art, its ability to help shape a community’s identity, and its powerful role in the process of placemaking – and we believe that a work of art d ‘Alex Katz is an outstanding contribution to The Woodlands community,’ said Jay Cross, President. of The Howard Hughes Corp., in a press release.

The public is invited to a celebration of the new mural taking place as part of a free event on the weekend of April 9-10 from noon to 4 p.m. at 1 Waterway Square across from the Westin.

Customers can enjoy live music, food carts, Texas Bubblers with giant bubble demonstrations, a free flower bar to create bouquets, sketchers, origami lessons and photos from a 360 degree rotating camera. Free souvenirs and a tote bag will be available while supplies last.
