Oz Comic-Con Homegrown is less than two weeks away – Here’s what you need to know


In a triumphant return and as part of the standardization of festive and convivial activities, Australiais clean Oz Comic-Con returns to Sydney during the first week of December, with a number of exciting guests, panels and activities.

Billed as presenting opportunities that “can only happen in a convention setting,” Oz Comic-Con Homegrown, which obviously showcases the strength and breadth of Australian talent in the great wilderness of pop culture, s ‘will address everyone, from passionate collectors to aspiring creators; players, both digital and tabletop; cosplayers and geek walking and talking encyclopedias – the works. And all gathered around a manifesto of great guests from all walks of pop culture.

    As you make your way through the Oz Comic-Con Homegrown showfloor, keep your eyes peeled for movie and TV activations (including a 2.5m recycled metal transformer), exclusive merchandise and interactive opportunities that are only possible within a convention framework.

    Below are some highlights, or a bucket list if you like, for Oz Comic-Con Homegrown Sydney.


    • Main stage
      The main stage is where you’ll attend Q&A panels with our guests from film, TV and comics and authors, in person and virtually!
    • Community stage and workshop
      You’ll be hard pressed to find a more passionate, engaged, and thoughtful group than the fans who converge on Oz Comic-Con for every event. This showcase begins at the community and workshop stage. These panels are a great way to talk to or teach like-minded people about a topic you’re passionate about. Panels can be question-and-answer style, a moderate affair, interactive, or a story trip. In this space, we can cover many different topics including cosplay, drawing, crafting, photography, editing and more.
    • Anime scene and trivia
      The Anime & Trivia scene, where your inner (or outer) Otaku and your pop culture knowledge come together in a giant (metaphorical) melting pot of fandoms. At the center of the showroom for Anime content, this stage will host screenings, panels, cosplay and trivia about the Anime, as well as broader themed Pop Culture Trivia events.


    • The artists’ alley
      A space to celebrate art in pop culture, Artist Alley is a colorful and creative neighborhood filled with original and fan art. Take the opportunity to interact with the creative geniuses behind your favorite comics, graphic novels, literature, and art projects – a truly unique and authentic way to learn about local talent as they make waves on the world stage.

      It’s in Artist Alley that you can purchase a unique order, designed and drawn just for you, or purchase prints and artistic creations such as novels, jewelry, clothing, and housewares. No matter what you like, you’ll find a creator to suit your interests, whether it’s superhero, manga, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or indie.


    • Cosplay center
      Cosplay Central is the meeting place and undoubtedly the go-to destination for all cosplayers and cosplay fans at Oz Comic-Con. Meet local cosplay talent for tips and tricks, grab your friends for the perfect photoshoot in front of cosplay sets, and have your pic taken by local cosplay photographers.
    • Cosplay parades, Active Cosplay and Cosplay Kids
      Oz Comic-Con hosts a variety of parades during the event for different skill levels. The Cosplay Parade is a big event showcasing the talent of cosplayers at Oz Comic-Con! It gives everyone the chance to get on stage and strut around.

      For those who aren’t quite ready for the cosplay championship but a cut above the cosplay parade, Cosplay Active is open to mainstream competitors to show off their craft skills and bring the PLAY component to cosplay.

      The Children’s Cosplay Parade is a great way for our little cosplayers to get into the cosplay spirit! Children can go on stage alone, in groups or for those who are too young or too shy, with a tutor.

    The neighborhood

    • The neighborhood
      The District is the melting pot of activities. This is a great place to find out if you want to browse our manga library, draw on the doodle wall, learn origami, or participate in our drawing competitions. The District will be hosting our cosplay group meetups throughout the weekend with its photo wall. Stop by and play on one of our free game consoles, or bring your handheld console and relax a bit and enjoy Among Us, Animal Crossing or Pokemon Sword and Shield with other congoers. There is something for everyone in The District.


    • Gaming Zone and Esports tournaments
      The Australian Esports League (AEL) is partnering with Oz Comic-Con to bring its free play zone and esports tournaments to every show. AEL recognizes the importance of creating ‘core’ esports, providing an unparalleled gaming experience to the gaming community at large.

      The play area will showcase the latest games and products, with an opportunity for participants to compete against their friends and other participants.

    • Table games library
      If tabletop play is more your speed …

      Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Catania. Have you heard of it ? Maybe you like Zombie Dice, Small World, or Red Dragon Inn? Well, this year Oz Comic-Con gives you access to all of these games, and more! We’ll use our tabletop resources to bring you a two-day gaming extravaganza. Enter the play area with a library of over 40 different games you can play.

The convention will be held December 4-5 at the Sydney Showground, 1 Showground Road, Sydney Olympic Park, and for the Melburnians you can get your December 11-12 Con at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Center (MCEC), 1 Convention Place, South quay.
