September in photos – News @ Northeastern

September meant a very welcome and “fully present” start to the academic year, a new normal just as exciting and rewarding as the old one. Registration was in effect as students took advantage of late summer and early fall weather. Northeast President Joseph E. Aoun led the annual convocation of new freshmen, while doctoral and master’s students at D’Amore-McKim celebrated their graduation. The university celebrated the 20th anniversary of September 11 with a ceremony in memory of Candace Lee Williams, a student who died in the attack. The university’s annual Civic Experience series featured former Obama deputy national security adviser to the White House, Ben Rhodes; and a new restaurant launched on Columbus Avenue. Why can’t we immunize the world? With 7.9 billion people worldwide, some 5.57 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered worldwide. But in low-income countries, only 1.9% of the population received even a single dose. At the root of this vaccine inequity, Northeast experts say, lies the question of who calls the metaphorical shots and why. Photos by Matthew Modoono / Northeastern University
