The Sunset Mercantile and its community partners will host the first of a new series of monthly live music events on Saturday, August 28, outdoors on 37th Avenue and Pacheco Street.

The outdoor community market has a long history of hosting family events and shopping opportunities featuring local produce, food, and music. Sunset Mercantile has partnered with local Fleet Wood printing company and Kevin North Band to develop a new series of outdoor music mini-festivals, as part of its programming open to all ages and following COVID safety protocols -19.

The new series, Last Saturday Live, will feature live music from several local bands and musicians with a variety of sounds. The August 28, 2021 lineup includes The HA, directed by Brooks Dierker, which features a mix of beach funk and southern country music; the Kevin North Band, which has a more British blues vibe; and Grupo Tribulation, a classic Peruvian fusion group. Manos Lindas, Sunset Hill, Mr. Andrew of The Under Trio and young and emerging local artist Gabi will also perform.

The August 28 event will take place from the mobile platform of The HA, a hugely personalized Ford motorhome that the group has gutted and turned into a mobile stage.

As with all Sunset Mercantile events, several local catering pop-ups will also be on hand to keep the audience well fed at each Last Saturday Live event.

For the first Saturday, you can enjoy a Texas-style smoky barbecue at Smokin D’s, Thai street food at Sowl Bowls, and plant-based dishes at De La Paz Remedios. An origami workshop will be held in the Merchant’s Fun Zone, run by hashtagmaid, and vendors will also sell local goods and crafts.

The Last Saturday Live series is currently scheduled to be offered again on September 25 and October 30. Admission is free and the music is scheduled to run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on 37th Avenue and Pacheco. Music may also be offered at other Sunset Mercantile events, as in the past.
