We are totally in love with this McDonald’s packaging concept

McDonald’s is known for its bold, playful and oft-illustrated packaging design. But what if it was even more, well, daring, playful and illustrated? A mind-boggling graphic design project imagines a more sustainable future for Happy Meal, and we want it to be real.

Regina Lim’s “Magical Forest” project is a series of beautifully cohesive designs that integrate storytelling, illustration and even augmented reality and origami to create a much more playful package set. “This Happy Meal aims to be more sustainable compared to the original Happy Meal by removing all plastic packaging and toys,” Lim explains. Behance page. Educational elements such as infographics and AR elements are printed on the underside of the package, making it educational and interactive. Happy Meal toys and display animals can be used to interact with the package – not allowing any part of this packaging to go to waste and by eliminating single-use packaging which turns into waste after consumption. “

Not only does the concept maximize materials by printing a backdrop for the delicious “toy” tree on the packaging itself, but it also looks stunning. We love the traditional hand-drawn style and muted pastel palette, which wouldn’t look out of place in a Studio Ghibli movie – and is a welcome change from the bright reds and yellows of traditional McDonald’s packaging.

And it looks like Lim’s work is making waves online, with Twitter users praising his creations. “McDonald’s doesn’t even deserve this level of artistic craftsmanship and care. So incredibly sweet!” one user tweets, while another adds: “McDonald’s is immediately offering this student a scholarship or a job.”

While McDonald’s recently revamped its packaging, the official designs arguably aren’t a patch on Lim’s stunning Magic Forest concept. If you’re inspired to get started on your own, check out the best laptops for graphic design.
